Heraldic Coinage
The new British coins revealed yesterday by the British Royal Mint are oh so very hot. They were designed by 26-year-old Matthew Dent, someone who’s never turned his eye to coinage before. Pretty decent first effort, I’d say.
In comparison, H&FJ look at what the US Treasury managed with 2,500 people and an annual budget of $525,000,000 (not forgetting the coins).

The British coins redefine the meaning of hot – that is some stellar design going on right there.
As for America? The new $5s are atrocious, with a girl in line at the deli last week exclaiming, “Oh god, what HAPPENED to it?” upon receiving her change from a $20. And the dollar coins make me laugh, because nobody here uses dollar coins, and all the presidents on them look like they’re about to shoot lasers out their eyes.
