So, DJ Krush and The Kyoto Jazz Massive are playing together tonight in Osaka at Triangle. Both are acts that I’ve been dying to catch in Japan but I always seem to find out when they’re playing about 4 hours before the show starts. Part of the problem is that there’s no consistent street press here that covers everything. This is largely due to the sheer amount of stuff going on every night in the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe area, if you had a list of everything going on in a month all over Kansai it would fill a phone.

Thusly, a lot of stuff slips by under the radar or is pushed at really bizarre times. Take DJ Cam for example. He’s a big act and would be a headliner at any club in Perth on a weekend with a fairly significant cover. He played in Kobe last year and the gig started at 11pm on a Tuesday night. That’s pure and utter insanity.

I’m not sure I can drag myself out to Osaka for an all nighter tonight, forcing me to cancel other plans, but the imp on my shoulder is certainly doing his best to convince me otherwise.
