Just not getting it
Sometimes there’s a beautiful surreality to living in this country. I was getting off the train to go to night school tonight and next to the door there were a couple of Japanese “punk” kids slouched and trying to look cool. One was wearing a trucker cap with a huge confederate flag and the words “some people just don’t get it, it’s a southern thing” written on it. The other, another guy, was wearing torn jeans and a tight black shirt that read “fuck me harder.” The both looked about 16. I put my ticket in the machine and wandered out of the station.
The first thing I saw as I came off the steps was a guy in a balaclava screaming as he fired a fully automatic steyr aug styled bb-gun into the nearby bike repair shop while the mechanics cowered behind scooters and threw oily rags in response. There was an old man walking a dog that was about three times as big as him (it looked like a small bear) standing by, looking bemused and perhaps wondering whether he should be shouting at them for disturbing the wa. I turned into the convenience store to grab a snack and discovered that they’ve started stocking Dr. Pepper at Family Mart.
The kicker; as I was walking down the hill I realised I was most surprised about the discovery of Dr. Pepper.

Barring that, however, the Dr. Pepper is most definately the most shocking thing about that sequence of events. Dammit, now I have to come to Suzurandai for soda. Wait… genius idea coming on… next month, Dr. Pepper and cheap pizza! Fuck yeah!
