Tally pain

Tonight, just out of interest I decided I’d write down all the money I’d spent during the day and then tally it up. I’ve had a pretty full-on day (come on, it’s Ozzie day. A litting splasing out is allowable) but nothing amazing. Dave and I went for lunch in the little Chinese restaurant down the hill from school and this evening the Suzu crew headed into Kobe to meet Jeremy and go for some Jamaican food. Couple of drinks afterwards then the train back and a taxi up the hill. Nothing amazing and certainly not a wild party night.

I tallied it all up and ran a currency conversion. 70 bucks! Holy flaming christ on crutches, Batman. That’s a lot of money. I wouldn’t spend that much on a whole weekend in Perth and I’ve just gone and blown it on a single weekday night here. They say Japan is an expensive country but you just take it for grandted until you actually do something like this and put it back into real money. No wonder I never seem to be able to send as much money home as I’d like to.

On the upside though we did find a very cool little vodka bar, extremely chilled place. Sitting and chatting while drinking straight Absolut and listening to early Chemical Brothers is a nice change from most of the bars here.

Never EVER do currency conversions. Just live your life in yen, and things will be much less painful. We do make a decent wage, my friend :)
