Kimikage Picnic

On Sunday morning, when we were all feeling a little under the weather thanks to the effects of the Beer Garden the night before, we decided to have a picnic up on the Kimikage rocks. The rocks are about a 15 minute hike up a path behind our apartment block and they look down over a valley with very few people about. On a good day (ie, when the smog from Osaka hasn’t had a chance to settle on the bay) you can ever seen down through the pass to the buildings of Kobe.

We drove down to the local supermarket and grabbed a stack of picnic food (3 french sticks, cream cheese, more cheese, karaage, chips, juice, cheese) and other necessities. Of course, no picnic is complete without alcoholic beverages and we were seriously in luck because Lorna had just returned from England with a handy 2 litre keg of genuine Zummersetian Cider. I can’t say it’s the most initially appealing drink I’ve ever tried, given that it tastes like feet dipped in apple vinegar, but the taste certainly does grow on you. I’m not whether that’s because it kills off your taste buds or not, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
