And this is my LV handbag…

I turned on my TV with the intention of actually watching it (rather than playing DVDs or Xbox) for the first time in about 7 months yesterday. I have a pathological hatred for most television and TV in Japan is about a thousand times more annoying than anything you get in Australia (Big Brother included). However, I decided I needed to bite the bullet and start watching half an hour or so a day just as practice for my Japanese.

So I grabbed my bowl of pasta at dinner and whacked it on. The first thing that came on was some kind of panel show (about 70% of JTV seems to be panel shows of some kind or other, almost always featuring an older male host with a young woman as a co-host) with about five of the peroxided bimbos that you see tottering around Kobe on heels, makeup caked across their chemically whitened faces and clutching their Louis Vuitton handbags to their chests. I shit you not, the first thing anybody said was:

”...and that’s why I like expensive things. They make me beautiful”
I turned the TV off after that and ate my pasta looking at the wall. Going to try again tonight though, maybe I’ll make it to 10 seconds this time.

Think of it this way – in Japan, they actually say what most materially-based people here wouldn’t want to say because it would MAKE them look materially-based.

Uh, did that make sense?

Well, at least they’re being honest with themselves, anyway.

I suppose so, but at the same time it’s kind of fucked when so many are like that. Sure, if it’s a minority but it just seems that most Japanese women seem to be like that. Hell, its probably a mass generalisation, but the LV toting hordes run strong in Kobe.
