Last week I had my first fully resolved conversation in Japanese, which I was quite chuffed about. Admittedly it was with a three year old and we discussed cats, but hey, you’ve gotta start somewhere. It went something like this:

Dan: Good morning
Kid: Hello. There’s a cat over there.
D: A cat, where?
K: Over there.
D: Uhhhhh. Oh yeah, there.
K: It’s a cat.
D: Yes. A cat.
K: A big cat.
D: Yup
K: Oh, it’s gone.
D: So it has.
pause
D: Ok, bye.
K: Bye

Wow, with that kind of challenging mental stimulation, I’ll be chatting about philosophy in no time.
